Know Your Tires

Every vehicle has tires that are specifically rated by manufacturers to be ideal for that vehicle. Choosing the right tire size is based on a number of factors including weight, handling, and durability. Have you ever wondered what exactly each letter or number of a tire size refers to?

When you see the tire size on your tire's sidewall, it is really providing you with a lot of information. No letter or a P before the first number signifies that the tire is for passenger vehicles. The first 3-digit number is the width of the tire in millimeters. The next number is the height of the tire as a percentage of the width. The R stands for rim, and the number that follows is the actual rim diameter.
